Free 404 & Soft 404 Checker

Find broken links and potential soft 404s.

We follow public internal links to check for missing pages and successful responses that look like missing pages.

Check availability, then request your free findings.

Your email is required before the scan. We’ll email your findings when the check is complete. You won’t need to wait on this page. No marketing subscription.

Use a public HTTP/HTTPS URL. Leave out queries, fragments and private account links.

Preparing the security check…

What this check can tell you

Starting from your homepage and submitted page, we follow eligible public internal HTML links. We flag HTTP 404/410 responses and potential soft 404s: HTTP 200 paired with clear missing-page text in both the title and main heading. Two generated missing paths separately test whether missing URLs redirect to the homepage.

The crawl continues after findings are detected. Results show the number of site URLs checked, discovered URLs still unchecked, and unresolved responses. Only up to two findings and four response examples are displayed. Generated paths are labelled separately and are never reported as discovered broken links.

Limits and inconclusive results

Use this as an initial check of how your website handles missing URLs, or test a specific public page that looks missing despite loading successfully. Blocked access, unavailable robots rules, timeouts, JavaScript-only content, ambiguous HTML and unsupported responses can prevent a reliable result. Thin content alone is not treated as a soft 404.

We continue until the eligible discovered links have been checked. The crawl saves progress and resumes in batches. Larger sites take longer, and a busy service may pause your job until capacity is available. We email the sample findings after the crawl finishes. A 100,000-URL discovery safeguard prevents unbounded link spaces; any discovery stop is disclosed. We exclude query/action URLs, private areas and files, and respect robots rules. JavaScript-only links, full sitemap discovery, root-cause investigation and prioritized fixes are outside this check. A limit or access failure is shown as incomplete coverage.
